Gabriel Shanks is a director, producer, screenwriter, and founder of A Certain Something. His films include "Intre," "The Least Untrue," "The Damnable Deprivation of Dmitri," "One More Thing," and "Heybabe." He created the streaming series "Extra Room," and served as show runner, head writer, and director of multiple episodes. The show received nominations for Best Series, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Editing at the Madrid International Film Festival.
One of the directors of Peculiar Works Project's Village Fragments (OBIE Award), Gabriel has directed over sixty film, television, and theatrical productions across the United States and Europe. He collaborated with 24 European and American artists on the world premiere of "Other Identities," a site-specific promenade performance at the Varna International Theatre Festival. Gabriel has directed at at acclaimed theaters in New York City, Seattle, Baltimore, Washington DC, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Chicago, Vienna, Sofia, and Budapest, among others.
Gabriel been a faculty member and lecturer on directing for twenty years, including at the American Conservatory Theatre, the Kennedy Center, Brooklyn College, Pace University, Towson University, Muhlenberg College, the University of Maryland, Rutgers University, Abrons Arts Center, R.S. 9 Szinhas Budapest, Teatrul de Comedie Bucharest, the American Corner Sofia, the ACT Festival, and more.
He lives in New York City with his husband, cinematographer Catalin Stelian, and their kelpie, Izzy.
