Born in the UK and raised across various locations in the United States as an Air Force child, Dave Coyne has always been fascinated by human behavior. He ultimately realized that life is inherently funny and that most situations lend themselves to comedy.
After creating numerous plays and short films—including an original 1999 Blair Witch spoof titled "The Bear Witch Project," which he wrote, directed, and starred in for The Independent Film Channel—and hosting segments for the Discovery Channel documentary series TechKnowledge from 2004 to 2005, he decided to bring his distinctive cinematic style to the web. Combining his talents as an actor, writer, and director, he adopted the persona DCLugi for his productions and was thrilled to build a global fanbase.
His rise to internet fame came in spring 2006 when he was inspired to create a parody of the feature film "Snakes On A Plane," starring Samuel L. Jackson, before its release. Dave impersonated Bono in a tribute to the actor, wrote original lyrics to U2’s "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own," and posted the resulting music video on YouTube. The parody, titled "Someone Tell Sam Jackson He's My Bro," went viral, appearing on thousands of blogs and websites worldwide and garnering millions of views. The buzz around the film became an internet phenomenon, with the Pasadena Star News quoting Mr. Jackson as saying, "My favorite thing is the song 'Someone Tell Sam Jackson He's My Bro.' I love that song. I walk around singing it all the time." TVGuide.com reported that, at the 2006 Comic-Con International, Jackson told fans it was his favorite fan tribute.
The widespread online attention led to an invitation from New Line Cinema producers to attend the Hollywood premiere. Dave was interviewed and featured in the documentary extras on the best-selling DVD released in January 2007.
Dave continues to produce, write, direct, and star in videos watched by millions of fans around the world. This global acclaim opened doors to collaborate with media powerhouse Turner Broadcasting Systems through their innovative comedy platform, SuperDeluxe.
