Nate co-wrote and starred in the 2015 film "ImagiGARY," featuring Hartley as the title character, Gary. He currently appears on ABC's The Goldbergs in a recurring role as Dan Morse, the lovable and kind clarinet player and family friend. Age: unspecified. Born in Ravenna, Ohio, to Michele and Rei Hartley, Nate has been creating short films since he could hold a camera. He has an older sister, Danielle, who works in law.
Nate began his performing career in 1997 at just five years old, entertaining family and friends with magic tricks. He also performed as a clown alongside his parents, who attended clown college in 2003; Nate was the youngest graduate ever from the school. His parents co-owned a video store in the early 1990s, before Netflix existed, and this exposure to classic films sparked his love for acting in movies and television. The passion was inNATE.
His enthusiasm for performing started at age five with community theater productions like Beanie and the Bamboozling Book Machine and A Christmas Carol, as well as local TV commercials and magic shows. In 2006, he was accepted as a junior member of the renowned Hollywood Magic Castle. Nate continued to refine his skills through improvisation and acting classes, leading him to pursue a career in acting, writing, and directing. He still studies and performs at Second City in Hollywood and does stand-up comedy at The Comedy Store.
Recent film roles include "Like, Share, Follow," where Hartley plays a stand-up comedian afraid of success; "Behaving Badly," as the unsettling son of a Russian mob boss; "Hello, My Name is Frank," portraying a rude, unsophisticated character; and "Feels So Good," another creepy role. His television credits include Disney shows such as "Zeke and Luther," "J.O.N.A.S!," "Hannah Montana," and other network series like "Unfabulous," "iCarly," "Rita Rocks," "CSI," "NTSF:SD-SUV," "Best Friends Forever," "New Girl," and "The Flipside." In 2008, Nate played a lead role in the feature film "Drillbit Taylor," produced by Judd Apatow and directed by his idol Steve Brill. Additional film appearances include David Wain's "Role Models," "South Dakota," "The Space Between," and "Dirty Girl" alongside Juno Temple.
His other TV credits feature a recurring role on TruTV's "Those Who Can't" and a guest-starring role as an autistic teen on TNT's "Perception" in 2014.
