Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Mimi Lazo is a leading Latin American actress with a prolific career in both theater and film. Her filmography spans over two decades, featuring award-winning roles in more than twenty films. She made a memorable debut with a cameo in the acclaimed Venezuelan film "El pez que fuma" (The Smoking Fish), directed by Román Chalbaud. She went on to star in critically praised films such as "Mascaro, el cazador Americano" (The American Hunter), which won Best Film at the Cartagena International Film Festival; "Los platos del Diablo" (Devil's Plates), earning her Best Actress from the Venezuelan National Film Association; "Golpe de Estadio" (Stadium Coup); and "Perder es cuestión de Método" (The Method of Losing), which was an official selection at the Venice Film Festival and directed by Colombian filmmaker Sergio Cabrera. Other notable works include "Terranova," opposite Antonio Banderas, and "Just for the Time Being."
A prominent figure in Latin American television, Mimi Lazo has held leading roles in popular series and films including the Spanish adaptation of Grey's Anatomy, "A corazón abierto," as well as "The Madame," "About Women," "Alone," and "Against Winds and Tides." Variety recognized her as one of the top female performers in Spanish television at the Mipcom convention in Cannes.
On stage, her extensive repertoire features acclaimed performances in Tennessee Williams' "A View from the Bridge," Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night," Chekhov's "The Seagull" and "Uncle Vanya," Noel Coward's "Blithe Spirit," and Neil Simon's "The Last of the Red Hot Lovers," among over thirty productions. For two decades, she has performed the record-breaking one-woman show "The Applause Is Within You," which has been staged over 3,000 times across 13 countries. This production holds the distinction of being the most successful theater show in Venezuelan history and was broadcast by HBO for Latin America.
