John Boylan, a renowned Canadian actor, acting coach, teacher, and mentor, founded the Centre for the Arts, a community arts centre that served from 2003 to 2010.
A graduate of The National Theatre School of Canada, John's 2016 film and television credits include Man Seeking Woman, The Meaning of Life, The Brief, Michael: Tuesday Thursday, From Noon to Starry Night, Running with Violet, and the 1973 film Alien Thunder.
John conducts Directing the Actor workshops for The Directors Guild of Canada and recently led a highly successful acting class at Centennial College.
Alongside his ongoing studio classes, John has taught at Ryerson Theatre School since 2002 and was a long-time guest tutor at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London.
He has delivered a Master Class to the acting company at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and taught the Directing the Actor course at New York University's Graduate Film School.
John developed the acting for film and television course at The Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin and has taught at the Guthrie Theatre, Queen Margaret College in Edinburgh, The Actors Centre in London, and in Zimbabwe for the International Actor's Federation (FIA).
His teaching experience also includes George Brown Theatre School, York University’s graduate and undergraduate theatre programs, Humber College, and workshops across Canada at the Workshops in the Performing Arts in Vancouver, Moving Images Group in Halifax, National Screen Institute in Winnipeg, and Queen’s University. He designed and led workshops for ACTRAWORKS at CBC studios in Vancouver, St. John's, and Halifax.
A recent mentor through the Canadian Senior Artist's Resource Network (CSARN) program, John also taught the first-ever on-camera class at The Yale School of Drama.
