Richard Crouse considers himself incredibly fortunate to be living his childhood dream. At 16, he began his career as a nighttime DJ at CKBW radio in Nova Scotia, making him the youngest DJ in the Maritimes. His role was 'jr. announcer,' a position once held by actor Donald Sutherland at the same station.
In 1980, Richard moved to Toronto to pursue writing. Initially, he wrote for free wherever he could get published, gradually building a portfolio that led to work with magazines and newspapers. His articles have appeared in The Globe and Mail, The National Post, and various literary and music magazines.
As a teenager, Richard authored his first book, a history of his favorite band, The Rolling Stones. Since then, he has published four more well-received books, including Rock & Roll Toronto and Who Wrote the Book of Love (Doubleday). He also wrote a biography of Celine Dion (Ballantine, New York) and Big Bang, Baby, a rock trivia encyclopedia for Dundurn. His fifth book, The 100 Best Movies You've Never Seen, was released by ECW Press in 2003.
Currently, Richard appears on camera as co-host of Reel to Real, the Galaxi Award-winning television show and Canada's longest-running movie review program, now in its twelfth season on Rogers Television. Each week, he reviews the latest films and interviews top stars from Hollywood and beyond. Joining the show at the end of its sixth season, Richard has made regular appearances at the Cannes Film Festival, provided extensive coverage of the Toronto Film Festival, and conducted hundreds of interviews. While fulfilling his childhood dream, he remains driven and eager for new challenges. When asked what he hopes to find at the end of the rainbow, he simply smiles and says, "Another rainbow." Given his track record, he is sure to find it.
