José, also known as Zé, is currently filming "Cacau" for TVI and stars as the co-protagonist in the play "A Andorinha / La Golondrina". Directed by Pedro Almodovar, he featured in the film "Strange Way of Life / Extraña Forma de Vida", which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2023. On Netflix, he plays Eduardo, the lead in the internationally acclaimed "Turn of the Tide / Rabo de Peixe", with a new season coming soon. On television, José portrayed Amaro in the series "O Crime do Padre Amaro" (RTP) and David in "Bem Me Quer". He also appeared in the series "A Filha", "Pôr do Sol", and "Até Que a Vida nos Separe". José debuted on TV in 2015 with the soap opera "Jardins Proibidos" and subsequently acted in "Santa Bárbara", "Rainha das Flores", "Espelho d'Água", "A Herdeira", and "O Valor da Vida". In 2019, he was part of the main cast of Rede Globo’s novela "Salve-se Quem Puder / Run for Your Lives". On stage, he has excelled in lead roles in "Peer Gynt", "Peter Pan", "As You Like It", "A Morte do Príncipe", "Peter and Alice", and "Romeu & Juliet". His theater work also includes performances in "Macbeth", "Splendid's", "The Brothers Karamazov", "Se Eu Não Fechar os Olhos", "Um Rapaz Chamado Rupert Partiu-te o Nariz com um Pau?", and "Penetrator". In 2021, his portrayal of Hamlet, directed by Carlos Avilez, earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Theater Actor. In 2023, his role as Padre Amaro in "O Crime do Padre Amaro" won him the Golden Globe for Best Fiction Actor. He was also honored with the DGArtes Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in "O Som Que Desce da Terra". His film credits include "Salgueiro Maia - The Implicated: The Series" and "Gabriel", where he played the antagonist. José completed his Acting Course at the Escola Profissional de Teatro de Cascais from 2012 to 2015.
