Gina Gallego, a second-generation Angeleno, has appeared in over 100 feature films and television shows. She recently completed four seasons as Mrs. Hernandez on the CW's groundbreaking musical comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, starring Rachel Bloom. Before that, she played Estella on USA Network's The Shooter, starring Ryan Phillippe.
Gina's career encompasses a wide range of roles. As Ms. Sanchez, the determined attorney in Erin Brockovich, she succumbs when Julia Roberts offers her a glass of contaminated water. Other notable films include Disney’s top box office hit Beverly Hills Chihuahua, as well as Adam Sandler’s comedies Anger Management and Mr. Deeds.
Her television career began on NBC's prime-time drama Flamingo Road. She spent several years on network soap operas such as Santa Barbara, Rituals, The Bold and the Beautiful, and her final daytime role was Judge Ramirez on Days of Our Lives. Recent TV appearances include NCIS, The Middle, Shameless, Bosch, and Grey’s Anatomy as Callie’s mother. One of Gina’s memorable TV moments was on NBC’s Seinfeld, where she gave Jerry his first on-screen kiss in the classic episode "The Suicide."
Gina is the co-librettist of the new musical América Tropical (americatropicalmusical), which has received numerous awards and honors, including Finalist for the American Theatre Wing's Jonathan Larson Grant, Semi-finalist at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center’s National Alliance for Musical Theatre Conference, a featured concert reading at Musical Theatre West’s New Works New Voices Festival, winner of the Raise Your Voice Script Competition (awarded a concert reading by McCoy Rigby Entertainment), and selection for the Latiné Musical Theatre Lab’s Table Read Series, supported by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Family Fund.
Gina received the prestigious Golden Eagle Award from Nosotros for her work. Off camera, she is a choral singer who has performed under the direction of renowned conductor Jeannine Wagner. She is also an avid tennis player and enjoys tending to her flower garden in her free time. Married to writer-producer-actor Joel Bailey for 40 years, she is the proud mother of their son, Brendan.
