Lilla (Adelaide) Brignone (Rome, August 23, 1913 – Milan, March 24, 1984) was an Italian actress. From a young age, she frequented film sets and theaters, being the daughter of director and actress Lola Guido Visconti, niece of actress Mercedes Brignone, and related to actor Uberto Palmarini and actor-director Giuseppe Brignone. She made her theater debut at just fifteen with the Kiki Palmer company. One of the most prominent Italian actresses of the 20th century, she worked alongside notable figures such as Ruggero Ruggeri, Memo Benassi, Renzo Ricci, Giorgio Strehler, Salvo Randone, Vittorio De Sica, and Luchino Visconti. Known for her intensity and precision in performance, she is especially remembered on stage for roles such as Vasilisa in Maxim Gorky's "The Lower Depths" (directed by Strehler), Miss Julie in August Strindberg's "Miss Julie" (directed by Visconti), and Mrs. Frola in Luigi Pirandello's "Right You Are (If You Think So)" (directed by Giancarlo Sepe). In 1955, she won the San Genesio Prize for her portrayal in Giuseppe Giacosa's "Come le foglie." She was both life partner and stage companion to Gianni Santucci, forming one of the most celebrated couples in Italian theater history. Also cherished by film directors, she worked under the direction of Salvatore Samperi, Pasquale Squitieri, Jean Delannoy, Bernard Borderie, Alberto Lattuada, Renato Castellani, Alessandro Blasetti, and Michelangelo Antonioni. In 1972, she received the Capitoline Oscar, an award recognizing those who have distinguished themselves through solidarity.
