As a teenager, he briefly lived in the USA but completed his high school diploma in Germany. Raacke then spent two years at the Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt. From 1978 to 1981, he trained in acting and directing in New York at the Actors Studio under Lee Strasberg and at the Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting. He took part in several Broadway productions. Returning to Germany in 1983, he made his television debut in "Tango in the Belly," directed by Klaus Emmerich, and "Zuckerhut." That same year, he gained recognition as miner Karl Boetzkes in the TV series and miners' saga "Rote Erde," also directed by Klaus Emmerich.
In 1986, he made brief appearances in Klaus Lemke's comedy "Bibo's Men" and the historical drama "Lenz or Freedom," based on Stefan Heym’s work. The following year, he featured in the political thriller "Gambit" by Peter F. Brinkmann. For this role, Raacke received the Chaplin Shoe German Actor Award from the Federal Association of German Film and Television Directors as the best young actor. In 1988, he delivered a strong performance as an associate judge in the documentary play "Abtreibed." He gave another notable performance in the 1995 rape drama "Everyone Was Watching," portraying the victim's defense attorney. In 1991, Raacke became a father to a daughter from his relationship with actress Natja Brunckhorst.
Dominic Raacke debuted as a screenwriter in 1996 with the erotic thriller "The Cold Finger," in which he also played the character Gregor. The following year, his screenplays for the crime comedies "Modellknaben," about two clumsy police officers investigating their own circles, were well received by audiences. In 1995, he won the Telestar award for best script for the German series "Um die 30," in which he also portrayed Frank Schott. Since 1999, Raacke has regularly appeared as Chief Inspector Till Ritter in the "Tatort" series. Alongside Chief Inspector Felix Stark, played by Boris Aljinovic, and assistant Weber, portrayed by Ernst-Georg Schwill, he investigates cases in Berlin’s urban environment. His character is depicted as a man resistant to commitment who navigates city life with a strong personal will.
