Stephen Traxler was born in 1945 and graduated from Canoga Park High School in Canoga Park, California, in 1963. Before serving as an infantryman in Vietnam, he worked as a bit player and production assistant in Hollywood. In the mid-1970s, while running a radio station near Mammoth Mountain, Traxler broke his leg and stayed with a female friend in Venice, California. Inspired by the city's canals, he wrote the script for the creature feature horror film "Spawn of the Slithis." The movie was filmed in 12 days on a $100,000 budget and reportedly earned $11 million at the domestic box office, although Traxler never received any of the profits. Since then, the film has developed a small but devoted cult following among fans of quirky low-budget 1970s drive-in horror movies. Traxler has remained active in the film industry, writing, directing, and producing the made-for-TV movie "Sam Churchill: Search for a Homeless Man" in 1999. Additionally, he has worked as a producer or associate producer on films such as "Dracula's Widow," "Windtalkers," "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde," and "Out of Time," and served as a production supervisor on several movies, including "Lookin' to Get Out," "Invasion U.S.A.," "Gleaming the Cube," "Waterworld," "McHale's Navy," and "Meet the Deedles.
