At eighteen, David Sanderson launched his career as a production assistant on the feature film Convoy (1978), directed by Sam Peckinpah. He continued working in various roles—production assistant, actor, property assistant, and film loader—on projects such as Cloud Dancer (1980), Little House on the Prairie (1980), The Yeagers (1980), Mommie Dearest (1981), Reds (1981), Young Maverick (1979), Rocky III (1983), CHiPs (1982-1983), Dallas (1981-1984), among others. David was then hired by Panavision Representative Company (Victor Duncan, Inc.) as a camera technician.
After fulfilling his commitment there, David immediately progressed to second and first assistant cameraman roles on numerous television and feature productions, including Dallas (1986-1988), Robocop (1987), The Tracker (1988), Lonesome Dove (1989), Cold Sassy Tree (1989), Dances with Wolves (1990), Crime Story: The Series (1990), Father Dowling Mysteries (1989-1990), In the Heat of the Night (1991-1992), Last of the Mohicans (1990), The People vs. Larry Flynt (1997), and more. He also worked as an assistant and camera operator on commercial, industrial, and music video projects.
After being promoted to A Camera Operator on Walker, Texas Ranger, David continued working in this role on TV movies and features such as The President’s Man (2000), The President's Man: A Line in the Sand (2002), Logan's War: Bound by Honor (1998), among others.
While serving as the A Camera Operator on Walker, Texas Ranger (1998-2001), David was recruited by a European director to serve as Director of Photography on a project in Austria. Following the project’s success, he was invited back to Europe for numerous Director of Photography roles, leading him to relocate with his family to Berlin in 2002. Over the next seven years, he worked on series, mini-series, and feature films across Spain, Italy, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria before returning with his family to the USA in 2008. David currently works on both American and European productions.
