André Mattos is currently filming for GLOBO TV and has recently appeared in AfroReggae Audiovisual/Disney’s "Na Linha de Fogo/Core," Globoplay/AfroReggae Audiovisual’s "O Jogo que Mudou a História," Amazon Prime’s "Último Ano Inesquecível - Verão," and Amazon Prime’s "DOM" (Seasons 1 and 2). He is one of Brazil’s most cherished actors in theater, television, and film. Mattos won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival in 2019 for "Veneza" and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor again for "492" at the Rio International Film Festival in 2017.
Born to theater actors Emílio and Zélia de Mattos, André was destined for the stage. With hundreds of plays to his name, he became a household figure in Brazil through notable comedy series such as "O Quinto dos Infernos" and "Senhora do Destino." His standout role as Fortunato in "Elite Squad: The Enemy Within" earned him the Grande Prêmio do Cinema Brasileiro for Best Supporting Actor and caught the attention of Hollywood and director José Padilha, who invited him to participate in the first season of "NARCOS" (the Escobar story). Mattos can also be seen in "PÉLE," produced by Brian Grazer.
Humor is one of his strengths, having been part of Chico Anysio’s legendary comedy troupe. André credits his talent to a natural gift, possibly genetic, noting, "My father, Emílio de Mattos, was an excellent comedian." Emílio, who passed away in 1973, co-founded the Tablado Theater in Rio with Maria Clara Machado. André also works as a dubbing artist, lending his voice to Fender in Disney Studios’ animated film "Robots."
He studied under Ruy Guerra at Gama Filho Film University in Rio and has appeared in 20 films, 53 stage productions, and more than 17 soap operas and TV series. Acting professionally since 1984, Mattos furthered his training at ARTTS INTERNATIONAL in North Yorkshire, England, specializing in television, cinema, and theater. He starred in the popular "Páginas Amarelas," a co-production of JVA and Walt Disney Productions.
André is a theater professor at the Acting School TABLADO of Maria Clara Machado and is the founder and director of Fazenda da Arte Artistic Productions Ltda. He received the Super Cap Gold trophy, known as the Brazilian Oscar, honoring outstanding achievements in TV, film, and theater. In 2014, he won Best Supporting Actor at the Brazil II International Film Festival. Other accolades include the Cinema Brazil Quality Award (2003) for Best Supporting Actor, Brazil Quality Award (2001) for TV Humor Revelation, and Best Actor awards from the Natal Film Festival and Fescine 100 - 100 Years Film Festival.
In theater, he performed in "Girl and the Wind," a classic play by Maria Clara Machado, celebrating the 60th anniversary of Teatro Tablado, earning a Best Actor nomination in 2012. He won the Coca-Cola Award for Best Actor in 1998 and was nominated for the English Culture Theater Award for Best Actor. He also received theater acting nominations in 1996 and 1998. As a producer, he was nominated for Best Producer in 1998 for the show "Em Cantos," which received 20 nominations and won 6 awards in Rio de Janeiro. In 1999, his show "Gulliver's Travels" garnered 7 nominations. In 2003, he was nominated for Best Actor for his role in "Pluft, the Little Ghost."
Mattos has served as Production Director for the Roberto Marinho Foundation, Coca-Cola Industries Ltda., and the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Secretary of Culture.
