Michael von Hohenberg was born in November 1973 in northeast Bavaria, Germany. His family, formerly known as "von Oelhafen," has a history spanning 700 years. After finishing college, he began an apprenticeship as a brewer. In 1998, he moved to Munich to study acting. During and after his studies, he performed in theaters in Munich, Hof, Wunsiedel, and Bayreuth. In 2001, he landed his first film role in a TV movie. From that point on, he appeared in numerous television and cinema roles, with notable appearances in Tatort and (T)raumschiff Surprise: Periode 1.
At the same time, he developed an interest in behind-the-camera work. He gained experience working on daily soaps as well as international films, learning all aspects of filmmaking. During this period, he collaborated with stars such as Peter Ustinov, Joseph Fiennes, Alfred Molina, Michael Ironside, and Bruno Ganz. In 2003, together with his girlfriend, he founded a film company and produced his first short film.
In 2006, his first feature film, "The Evolution Evidence," was produced. In 2010, Michael directed his second feature film, "Legend of Brothers," featuring many German celebrities, which was nominated for the German Human Rights Film Award for its stance against racism. That same year, he married his longtime girlfriend, Jutta Weiss.
In 2012, he produced his current feature film, "Final Picture," for which he wrote the screenplay and took on directing and cinematography responsibilities. In 2013, the film won an audience award at a German film festival. In 2014, Michael received the "Yellow Oscar" for the best nuclear-themed film worldwide at the International Uranium Film Festival in Rio de Janeiro. The festival also showcased the film in Berlin, Germany, as well as Quebec and Montreal, Canada. In April 2016, "Final Picture" was screened in Los Angeles.
Michael von Hohenberg also serves as a film commissioner for his region and leads the district filmmaking club. His upcoming major projects include a crime film with an accompanying web-series and an international historical movie about Margravine Wilhelmine. In 2016, actress Kat Kramer honored Michael von Hohenberg as the "Most Promising Film Director 2016," presenting him with the "Golden Spirit Award" at the Atomic Age Cinema Fest in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
