Born into a Hollywood film family, Eric Stacey graduated from Hollywood High before beginning his career on major motion pictures like the original "Planet of the Apes" and "Patton." His father, a founding member of the Director's Guild of America and 1st AD on "Gone With The Wind," tragically died in a location car accident in 1969. Afterward, Eric co-produced "A Berkeley Christmas," one of the first feature films from the American Film Institute, directed by Frank Dandridge. After spending a year at AFI, Eric wrote, produced, and directed short films for the UCLA Media Center. He sold his first screenplay in 1976 and started adapting novels for producers such as Patrick Duffy ("Dallas") and Craig Gilbert (PBS's groundbreaking series "An American Family"). In the late 1970s, Eric joined the Director's Guild of America and worked as second assistant director on the TV series "Scruples," as well as on the films "Private Benjamin" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind - The Special Edition." Throughout the 1980s, he wrote and directed industrial films for General Telephone of California. After several years living on the Big Island of Hawaii, he returned to Los Angeles to serve as Executive Sales Manager for Pure-Grade, Inc., the U.S. affiliate of Arai Machinery of Tokyo, Japan. In 1996, Eric resumed filmmaking as Associate Producer alongside David Oyster ("Cosmos") on the PBS travel series "America's Scenic Rail Journeys." Two years later, he began producing his own films, including the CINE Golden Eagle Award-winning "The Waldorf Promise," the low-budget horror-comedy "Director's Cut" (Best Horror Comedy winner at Frightfest 2003), the PBS documentary "A Passion for Sustainability" (Telly Award recipient), the feature film "Purple Mind" (distributed by Ytinifni Entertainment), and his third feature, "Unthinkable: An Airline Captain's Story," which premiered at New York's Quad Cinema in 2014. He currently resides in Gresham, Oregon with his wife, Hiroko. His daughter, Tobe, practices Chinese Medicine in Fallbrook, California. Eric remains passionate about movies.
