Mary-Rachel was born into the theatre world: her British father, the Honorable Oliver Foot, and American mother, Nancy Bruce Foot, were founding members of Footsbarn Theatre—a non-profit, grassroots company that revitalized Cornish legends, Shakespeare, and modern plays. The group created their own costumes, wrote original scripts, and handled choreography and music themselves.
Her involvement with Footsbarn marked the beginning of her performing career. She appeared in her first play at age six and has maintained a passion for the stage ever since.
Mary-Rachel also hails from a distinguished, internationally recognized political family in England. Her grandfather, Sir Hugh Foot, also known as Lord Caradon, was a British diplomat who guided the British Colonies to independence. He was made Lord Caradon after retiring as the last British colonial governor of Cyprus.
Sir Hugh served as British Ambassador to the United Nations and as Governor of Jamaica, Cyprus, and Nigeria. The Queen knighted him for his foreign service in Palestine, Jamaica, Cyprus, and Nigeria. He also held a seat in the House of Lords.
Her great-uncle, the Rt. Honorable Michael Foot (Sir Hugh Foot’s brother), was a Labour Party MP and former party leader who ran against Margaret Thatcher for Prime Minister.
Her uncle, Paul Foot, a seasoned journalist, was once named UK journalist of the decade; he contributed to the Socialist Worker and Private Eye magazine, a political satire publication.
In 1979, Mary-Rachel relocated to the United States. From ages 9 to 18, she lived on Long Island, New York, excelling as an athlete and earning awards in music and drama. She was nominated by her peers as most likely to succeed, most all-around, most dramatic, and most musical. Mary-Rachel attended Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, where she majored in broadcast journalism and communications.
In 1992, she moved to California, beginning a captivating journey into the entertainment industry in Los Angeles. Following her father’s example, Mary-Rachel founded her own theatre company, The Rogue Theatre Company, where members wrote, directed, and performed original works at the Zephyr Theatre in Los Angeles.
