With over 30 years in the entertainment industry, Learan Kahanov is recognized for his versatility and commitment to pushing cinematic boundaries. His artistic path is varied, yet his unwavering focus remains the same: to continually expand the possibilities of visual storytelling while challenging and uplifting both the industry and humanity.
An Israeli-American, and the son of a fine artist and an industrial psychologist, Kahanov graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Rising through the ranks of the New York independent film scene in the 1990s, he has collaborated with notable figures such as Kevin Smith, Christine Vachon, Ira Deutchman, and Todd Solondz.
Primarily a cinematographer, Kahanov seamlessly integrates himself into any set, film, or show, making him an invaluable craftsman. His experience spans film and television, from independent and major studio productions to unscripted and children's programming, as well as music videos and concert films—all united by a foundation of storytelling.
Three decades working on a variety of film sets have given Learan profound expertise not only as a filmmaker but also as a problem solver. He has contributed his talents to companies including Lionsgate, HBO, CBS, ABC, TBS, The CW, Starz, Sesame Workshop, and The Jim Henson Company. His exceptional ability to navigate diverse genres and budgets enhances his natural talent for elevating ideas into their best form.
Kahanov is actively developing and writing his own projects, both independently and collaboratively. His work focuses on exploring the human condition and shedding light on difficult yet vital societal topics that foster intellectual and psychological growth.
Based in New York, when not on set, Kahanov enjoys experimenting in the kitchen and playing drums and the occasional washboard.
