Wayne Rose, born in Red Deer, Canada, is of mixed heritage (First Nation/Native American, Ojibwe) and was raised on a family farm in rural Alberta. After graduating from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, he launched his film and television career in Vancouver, progressing through roles such as storyboard artist, stunt performer, actor, assistant director, and production manager, all with the aim of directing and producing. Soon, he moved to New Zealand to direct full-time 2nd Units on the action- and FX-heavy series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess. Since then, he has directed episodes of popular shows including Smallville, The 100, and Battlestar Galactica.
Wayne directed Battlestar Galactica’s episode "Blood on the Scales," which TV Guide Magazine named one of the Top 100 Television Episodes of All Time in June 2009, ranking it at number 43—the only episode from the series to receive this honor. Several of his other Battlestar Galactica projects earned award nominations, with his "Razor Flashback Featurette - Free Fall" winning the 2008 Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class-Short Format Live-Action Entertainment Program, and the Battlestar Galactica web series "Face of the Enemy" receiving the 2009 Streamy Award for Best Dramatic Web Series. He also received the 2005 George Foster Peabody Award for Significant and Meritorious Achievement in Broadcasting and Cable.
Known for his strong work ethic and adventurous spirit, Wayne has worked extensively worldwide, including across Canada, the U.S., New Zealand (where he gained citizenship, allowing him to work in both New Zealand and Australia), Qatar—where he produced and directed the Middle East’s first international sci-fi/fantasy television series, Medinah—Thailand, and Italy with the CBS series Blood and Treasure. Most recently, he directed the young adult series The Ocean Eyes in Thailand. Wayne is a member of both the Directors Guild of America and the Directors Guild of Canada. He resides in Los Angeles and holds passports from the U.S., Canada, and New Zealand.
