Davide Melini, born on April 9, 1979, in Rome, holds the record as the most awarded director in history.
His career began in 2004, and to date, he has directed six short films: Amore estremo (2006), La sceneggiatura (2006), The Puzzle (2008), The Sweet Hand of the White Rose (2010), Lion (2017), and Deep Shock (2019).
Throughout his career, he has also served as an assistant director on TV series such as Rome (2005), Penny Dreadful (2014), and Into the Badlands (2015), as well as on films including Baciami piccina (2006) by Roberto Cimpanelli, Mother of Tears (2007) by Dario Argento, Este amor es de otro planeta (2019) by Daniel Diosdado, and My Grand Farewell (2020) by Antonio Hens and Antonio Álamo.
All of his short films have earned numerous international festival awards and have been met with outstanding critical acclaim worldwide.
With over 1,000 awards, Lion stands as one of the most decorated horror short films in history.
In July 2012, the prominent American website Dr. Terror Blog of Horror featured “Italian Horror Week: The Rebirth of the Italian Horror Empire,” naming Davide Melini among the finest Italian filmmakers in the genre.
In January 2013, the renowned American site Creepercast recognized Melini as a leading horror director globally in “Creepy Horror Bites: The Independent Short Horror Film Director You Should Know Vol. 2,” honoring his contributions and short films.
In November 2014, the well-known Swedish website Theatre of Blood paid tribute to 'giallo' and Italian horror cinema, discussing filmmakers such as Mario Bava, Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, Sergio Martino, Antonio Margheriti, Massimo Dallamano, Umberto Lenzi, Riccardo Freda, Lamberto Bava, Michele Soavi, Aldo Lado, among others.
