David França Mendes was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and has been living in Cologne, Germany, since 2020. Since relocating, he has collaborated with Brazilian and European productions.
Films: Recently, he wrote the feature documentary "In Corman's Territory?" for Bro, and the children's animated film "O Casalinho do Diabo" for Take it Easy, both Portuguese production companies. Among his other works are the feature films "Dirty Hearts" (a literary adaptation blending drama and suspense) and "The Middle of the World" (a drama based on true events), both directed by Vicente Amorim. David wrote and directed the feature films "Um Romance de Geração," adapted from Sérgio Sant'Anna’s novel of the same name (comedy), and "2000 Nordestes" (documentary), co-directed with Vicente Amorim and produced by LC Barreto. He also penned the action feature "A Garota da Moto," based on the series he created, and co-wrote, alongside Ângela Fabri, the children’s film "Uma Aventura Perfekta," a spin-off of the series "Escola de Gênios" set for release in 2024; both produced by Mixer.
Series: França Mendes holds "created by" credits on three original series. He co-created and served as head writer for "A Garota da Moto" (adventure) for Fox and SBT; created and led writing for "Quase Anônimos" (comedy) for Multishow; and co-created with Rodrigo Ferrari, as well as head wrote "Nós" (drama) for Canal Brasil/Globoplay. David was the supervising writer for all six seasons of the family series "Escola de Gênios" on Gloob/Globoplay, and worked as head writer at Mixer for five years, creating, supervising, and developing various projects. He was also among the writers for the second season of "Copa Hotel" (drama), created by Giuliano Cedrini and Tatiana Roza for GNT at Pródigo. In 2022, he contributed to the development team for the series "Desassossego" (fiction, drama), an international co-production between Take it Easy (Portugal) and Iris (Luxembourg), with RTP (Portugal) participating.
Awards: David won the ABL Special Cinema Award and the Grande Cinema Brasil Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the feature film "Dirty Hearts," along with other awards and nominations at Brazilian and international events, including the NHK-Sundance Latin America for "The Middle of the World." His series "A Garota da Moto," which garnered strong audience ratings sustaining SBT as the second most-watched channel throughout its two seasons, was a finalist at all major Brazilian television awards in its first season, including the prestigious APCA award.
Other works: França Mendes is the author of the short story collection "O Herói Insone," and in 2019, he made his theater debut with the play "Amor é Química.
