Bladimir Abud is a distinguished Dominican filmmaker, academic lecturer, and international speaker. His films consistently address sensitive social issues and feature ordinary characters striving to challenge the status quo. This approach enables him to engage in ongoing rhizomatic experimentation, opposing the dominance of a single way of thinking.
His first film, 'La Lucha De Ana' (2012), was showcased at more than 50 international film festivals and earned multiple awards, including Best Film and Best Actress at the 2013 Soberano Awards. In 2013, he directed his second film, 'Los Súper,' a comedy infused with social themes. In 2016, he released 'A Orillas Del Mar,' a social drama featuring both professional and amateur actors, which received numerous international festival nominations and won Best Film and Best Director at the 2017 Soberano Awards. His 2019 film, 'La Otra Penélope,' set in post-war Santo Domingo and adapted from Andrés L. Mateo's novel, garnered several honors at the 2019 Latino and Iberian Film Festival at Yale and Festcinerd, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Lead Actor, and Best Supporting Actor.
As of 2026, Abud is in pre-production on his upcoming science fiction feature, 'ARJÉ IV: Ser En El Espacio.'
Beyond filmmaking, Abud actively contributes to film theory and academia. As an international speaker, he has developed and delivered the lecture series "Cartografías Del Desplazamiento: Cine, Memoria Y Dispositivo De Identidad En La Diáspora Dominicana," presenting his research on memory and cinema at leading institutions and global forums.
