Biographie
Marc Marut is a Canadian actor born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His mother immigrated from England, and his father from France. When he was three, his family relocated to Oakville, Ontario, where he attended École Ste-Marie. As a child, he was very active, taking part in soccer, ju-jitsu, cub scouts, and the school choir. In fourth grade, despite missing over half the school year due to acting commitments, his academic performance remained strong, leading the school to advance him a grade. He later attended Appleby College and Oakville Trafalgar High School but did not pursue higher education.
At age nine, his father encouraged him to audition for the upcoming production of Les Misérables to earn a cub scouts badge. His mother was upset at the idea he might actually get the role. To his father’s surprise, Marc was cast as Gavroche, which required him to quit cub scouts and other extracurricular activities due to the demanding schedule. Despite initial reservations, his mother took an active role in managing his budding acting career, playing a key part in his success as a child actor. Following Les Misérables, Marc quickly secured roles in television series and became one of Toronto’s busiest young actors at that time. He is best known for playing Johnny McFarley in The Paperboy (1994), Danny Cardigan in TekWar: TekLords (1994) and TekWar: TekJustice (1994), and Elbert Wertz in Avonlea (1990).
At 19, Marc resumed martial arts training, gaining proficiency in jiu-jitsu, kung fu (Hung gar and dragon-tiger styles), lapunti arnis de abanico, and grappling (submission wrestling). Throughout his twenties, he competed successfully in various tournaments across Ontario and the United States. Martial arts remains a deep passion for him, with its philosophy closely aligning with his own life views.
After watching the film Monsters (2010) at the Toronto International Film Festival and learning that director Gareth Edwards created the impressive visual effects himself on a laptop, Marc became intrigued by the accessibility of such technology. Soon after, a close friend introduced him to Blender, a powerful and free open-source animation and visual effects software. Since then, Marc has devoted himself to mastering visual effects for his own video productions.
Marc currently resides near Toronto, Ontario, with his son, continuing to explore his creative passions including acting, music, writing, video production, and visual effects.
