Steve Hope Wynne is an English actor of Scot-Irish descent, known for his work in television comedy and drama, feature films, theatre, radio, and as a voice talent for games and animation. He is also the vocalist, songwriter, and producer of the avant-garde rock band SkyQuaker, whose recordings feature Mike Garson, renowned pianist for David Bowie. Steve is recognized for his game roles including Richard Croft, Lara Croft's father, in Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018) starring Camilla Luddington, and Earl Baylon in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) alongside Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Deep Roy, Christopher Lee, James Fox, Missi Pyle, and Freddie Highmore. His film credits also include Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Shongram (2014) starring Anupam Kher and Asia Argento, among other game and movie titles. Steve’s versatile voice work has been featured in major studio games and films directed by the likes of Tim Burton, notably Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) for Warner Bros. He has also worked as a voice impressionist in stand-up and comedy writing alongside Alex Lowe and Lewis Macleod in 'Barry from Watford' and co-created several award-winning radio comedy shows, including 'Damn the Torpedoes' for BFBS.
Steve served in the British Army’s Royal Corps of Signals as a Communications Specialist Detachment Commander, following service with the Royal Navy Reserve. As a musician, he played French horn with the Middlesex Yeomanry Band and is the frontman, composer, and founder of the avant-garde rock band SkyQuaker, collaborating with co-writer, movie composer, and producer George McFarlane of The Quick, known for multiple US top ten hits.
He received a working scholarship to ALRA (Academy of Live and Recorded Arts) in London during its inaugural year. After graduating in 1986, Steve moved from London to Vienna and other parts of Europe, where his career began at Vienna’s International Theatre, performing roles in works by American playwrights such as John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men. In Vienna, he played The Times Columnist in Marvin J. Chomsky’s Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna (1986), starring Amy Irving, Edward Fox, Omar Sharif, Christian Bale, and Claire Bloom. Returning to London in 1987, he worked on TV series including The Bill (1984), Drop the Dead Donkey (1990) for Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin, and Holby City (1999). He took on multiple roles in successive Shakespeare and Greek classical plays while collaborating with new writers and independent producers such as Sue Pomeroy and Denis Saunders in the Good Company touring production of The Pepyshow starring Peter Woodward. He also worked with a new wave of TV writers and directors like James Strong, appearing in Strong’s Lady Jane and in Hustle (2004). Steve is also an expert rower of historic boats such as skiffs and cutters, frequently participating in motion features and TV series including Sanditon (2019), Wolf Hall (2015), and Robin Hood (2010), working alongside Richard Carless of Marine Film Services.
