Biographie
Canan Erguder earned her BA in Sociology and Theater from Franklin and Marshall College and her MFA in Acting from the Actors Studio Drama School at The New School University. She also participated in workshops at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA). In 2003, she was inducted as a lifetime member of the Actors Studio, where she had the chance to work with Ellen Burstyn, Carlin Glynn, Lee Grant, Elaine Stritch, and David Margulies. Thanks to her work at the Actors Studio, she was selected along with four colleagues to join a workshop led by Mario Biagini of Workcenter di Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards. Her notable off-off Broadway roles include leads in Rattlesnake and Graceland. In 2007, she won the Best Supporting Actress Award at the Hoboken International Film Festival for her role as Nancy in the independent film Shooting Johnson Roebling. After spending 14 years in the United States, she returned to Turkey in 2007 to take on a recurring role in the TV series Bicak Sirti. This led to her role in Binbir Gece, a show that gained popularity across Eastern Europe, Northern Africa, the Caucasus, Saudi Arabia, and South America. In 2009, Canan received the Best Supporting Actress Afife Jale Theater Award for her performance as Kadin in the play Bayrak. From 2010 to 2012, she starred as the female lead in Behzat C: Bir Ankara Polisiyesi, a TV series that remained in Netflix’s top 10 list throughout 2020. Since 2010, her film credits include Will with Damian Lewis and Bob Hoskins, Russell Crowe's The Water Diviner, Hiner Saleem’s Tight Dress, and Semir Aslanyürek’s Chaos. Her most recent TV role is a lead in Menajerimi Ara, an adaptation of the Netflix hit Call My Agent. Currently residing in Turkey, Canan is also well familiar with the United States, speaking English with a classic Northeastern American accent, free from any foreign influences.
