Biographie
Hermann Joha is the founder and managing director of action concept Film- & Stuntproduktion GmbH and hands-on producers GmbH & Co. KG.
Born in 1960 in Lohr am Main, Joha trained as a helicopter pilot and began his career as a professional stuntman at seventeen, joining the British stunt driver troupe, the "Hell Drivers."
In 1982, he established the stunt company "Driving Unit" in Düsseldorf, which contributed as the second unit stunt team to notable German TV productions such as "Tatort" (Crime Scene), "Die Wache" (The Bill), "Großstadtrevier" (Big City Beat), and "Eurocops."
Joha's production company is renowned for the long-running cops-and-Autobahn action series Alarm for Cobra 11, a ratings success on the commercial network RTL for over 17 years. Action concept has earned the Taurus World Stunt Award—the prestigious "stunt Oscar"—a record nine times for best action in a foreign film.
Founded in 1992, action concept Film- und Stuntproduktion GmbH saw Joha take over the 2nd Unit of "Alarm für Cobra 11" alongside numerous TV action movies and feature films. He later developed his own successful formats, including the DSF magazine "Stuntteam." In 1996, shortly after receiving the German TV prize "Golden Lion Award" for his work on "Alarm für Cobra 11," Joha assumed full production responsibility for the series, overseeing development through post-production.
Following the 1997 premiere of the TV movie "Der Clown," which he created, Joha produced an even more action-packed spin-off series. He subsequently developed other series such as "Die Motorrad-Cops" (The Motorcycle Cops), "Wilde Engel" (Wild Angels), "Alarm für Cobra 11 - Einsatz für Team 2," and various TV movies including "Lasko - Im Auftrag des Vatikan" ("Death Train"), "Abgrund - Eine Stadt stürzt ein" ("Gaping Abyss"), and "Dekker der Trucker" ("Dekker"). Additionally, Action concept launched the first daily action series, "112 - Sie retten Dein Leben" ("112 - Lifesavers").
Joha has collaborated with top American showrunners through the "German Writers' Room," working under acclaimed producers such as Lee Goldberg ("Monk," "Diagnosis Murder," "Baywatch"), William Finkelstein ("Law & Order," "L.A. Law," "NYPD Blue"), and Bryce Zabel ("Pandemic," "Blackbeard," Chairman of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences 2001-2003). Selected writers participated in intensive weeks developing new series for German and international TV markets.
In 2012, Hermann Joha received the German Television Award in the extraordinary contribution to fiction category, the German equivalent of the Emmy, recognizing his lifetime achievements.
Joha’s primarily prime-time productions are broadcast in over 140 countries. Beyond television, action concept has provided second unit and stunt services on feature films, including the Bollywood production Don 2 - The King is Back starring Shah Rukh Khan.
His company hands-on producers co-produced Ron Howard’s racing film Rush, as well as Collide (working title: Autobahn) and Boy7.
