Biographie
Ilian Djevelekov, born in 1966 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, studied Psychology at Sofia University before graduating in Film and TV Directing from the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia. His student film, I Want To Be Free, won the best short film award at the Golden Rose Film Festival in Varna in 1993. Between 1994 and 2000, he worked as a producer and director at Ku-Ku Film Company. In 2001, alongside Matey Konstantinov and Georgi Dimitrov, he co-founded Miramar Film, now one of Bulgaria's leading production companies for feature films, documentaries, and TV commercials. Ilian has directed and produced numerous TV commercials and documentaries, including his latest documentary, Cuba is Music, which premiered at the International Sofia Film Festival in 2009 and participated in various festivals and markets. His debut as a producer of full-length features was with Javor Gardev’s film Zift, which won the Silver St. George award for best director at the 2008 Moscow International Film Festival. The film was celebrated at festivals including Toronto, Melbourne, Mar del Plata, and Istanbul, and was distributed in Europe and the US by IFC Films. In Bulgaria, it became the most successful domestic release in two decades. Ilian’s directorial debut feature film, LOVE.NET, released in Bulgarian cinemas in 2011, was the top box office hit of the year. He also produced and co-wrote the film, which ranks among the top 10 domestic hits of all time and was featured in competitions at the Bratislava and Bahamas film festivals. In 2011, Ilian received the Best Director award from the Bulgarian Film Academy. His second feature film, Omnipresent, premiered successfully in Bulgaria in October 2017, winning the Golden Rose Award for Best Picture at the Bulgarian Feature Film Festival, along with four other major awards. He is currently developing a new film project.
