Rising actress Travina Springer is quickly establishing herself as a standout talent in today’s entertainment world. This year, she joins the Marvel Universe in Disney+ and Marvel Studios' highly anticipated new series, "Ms. Marvel." The show centers on Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), a Pakistani-American teenager in Jersey City who is passionate about superheroes. While navigating high school, Kamala acquires magical bangles that grant her cosmic energy powers, setting her on a journey to become her own hero. Travina portrays Tyesha Hillman, a confident, stylish character who boldly follows her own path. Tyesha is also a Muslim convert devoted to her faith and family, with a love for all things nerdy. "Ms. Marvel" represents a fresh direction for Disney, highlighting Muslim and Pakistani heritage and emphasizing diverse storytelling. The series premiered on June 8, 2022.
Travina’s other credits include CBS’ "Life in Pieces," Paramount+’s "Strange Angel," and the Clint Eastwood-directed film "The Mule." In comedy, she performed in the 2017 CBS Diversity Sketch Comedy Showcase, and her stand-up was featured on BET’s reboot of "Comic View." She has been an active member of UCB Comedy, performing with the Maude team and Mama at the Upright Citizens Brigade.
Born to an Army Military Intelligence Officer, Travina moved frequently before her family settled in Oviedo, Florida, where she grew up. She attended Florida State University, majoring in Communication Studies. There, she explored acting through theater and film classes and participated in student films, falling in love with the craft. After graduation, she relocated to Los Angeles to pursue acting full-time and has been working steadily since.
Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL), Travina has volunteered and worked as an ASL interpreter, which supported her performances with Deaf West Theatre, including their Equity regional tour for children, "Shel Stories." She is also an active supporter of Vigilant Love, a Los Angeles-based organization fostering connection and grassroots advocacy to protect communities affected by Islamophobia and violence.
When not filming, Travina enjoys baking for friends, spending time at the beach, and searching for the best vegan donuts in LA. A convert to Islam like her character in "Ms. Marvel," she connected deeply with the role through their shared experiences.
