Biographie
Dan Angel, a multiple Emmy, Peabody, and WGA award-winning writer and producer, has been creating and overseeing high-quality film and television productions for over three decades. His extensive experience spans numerous genres, from Science Fiction and Horror to branded family entertainment across all formats. He has played a key role in some of the most successful family series and long-form movies over the past thirty years.
Recently, Mr. Angel founded Fezziwig Studios, a new Family Film and Television Studio. Fezziwig has acquired rights to more than 200 prominent properties, including New York Times Best Sellers and entire authors’ libraries.
Fezziwig Studios completed production on the adaptation of Sharon Draper’s New York Times Best-Selling book, Out of My Mind, in collaboration with Peter Saraf and Participant Media. The film premiered on Disney+ in 2024 to critical acclaim, earning a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It debuted at Sundance in 2024 to enthusiastic reception and continues to accumulate awards, including a Peabody Award, Television Academy Honors, and a Critics' Choice Awards Best Picture nomination. In 2022, Fezziwig produced Rescued by Ruby for Netflix, telling the true story of the Hero Dog of the Year. Starring Grant Gustin, the film garnered excellent ratings, ranking #2 worldwide across more than 180 countries, achieving a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and receiving multiple awards.
In 2022, Fezziwig Studios secured a significant deal with New York Times Best Selling author Jodi Thomas, gaining control of her library of over 70 titles. The first project, Ransom Canyon, a Netflix original series based on her bestseller and starring Josh Duhamel, Minka Kelly, and James Brolin, premiered on April 17, becoming the #1 series on Netflix in the U.S. and globally. Fezziwig also acquired the library of New York Times Best Selling author Terri Blackstock. Her bestselling novel, If I Run, starring Kat Graham, is set to premiere on Lifetime in summer 2025. Additionally, Fezziwig has secured rights to several Newbery Award-winning titles, including classics like Julie of the Wolves, Wringer, and Dead End In Norvelt, and is developing The Great Brain series with Nomadic.
Building on success adapting bestselling books, Mr. Angel obtained rights to the entire V.C. Andrews library, comprising over 100 titles, and struck a major deal with Lifetime to produce and launch this flagship brand. Fezziwig Studios produced 16 films from the V.C. Andrews collection, achieving some of Lifetime's highest ratings ever.
Mr. Angel earned accolades as co-producer and co-writer of the hit family series Goosebumps for FOX Network, winning the WGA Award for Best Children's Writing, a Gemini nomination for Best Children's Series, and being named TV Guide’s best kids’ show two years in a row. Goosebumps is regarded as one of the most successful family series in television history. He followed this with another popular R.L. Stine adaptation, The Haunting Hour, which received 28 Emmy nominations and won 7, including Outstanding Children's Series three consecutive years. The series amassed over 50 awards and honors during its run.
He also produced the inspirational film Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story as Executive Producer for TNT. Starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Kimberly Elise and directed by Thomas Carter, the film premiered worldwide on TNT and received numerous accolades, including a Humanitas Prize nomination, Critics Choice Best Picture nod, four Emmy nominations, and wins for Best Picture at the Image Awards and The Movie Guide Awards. It remains a top-selling title for Sony/Affirm.
Among his notable achievements, Mr. Angel secured movie rights to Bill Porter’s inspiring true story after seeing an interview on ABC’s "20/20." Serving as Executive Producer, he sold the film Door to Door to TNT and Johnson & Johnson. Starring William H. Macy, Kyra Sedgwick, and Helen Mirren, Door to Door became one of the most watched and honored films ever, receiving AFI, Peabody, Emmy, and Critics Choice awards. In 2003, it earned 12 Prime Time Emmy nominations—the most that year—and won six Emmys, including Outstanding Made for Television Movie, marking the highest number of Emmys ever won by a TNT program.
Mr. Angel has produced over 40 films for Lifetime, Hallmark, Universal, and other studios and networks, many ranking as the highest-rated movies in those networks’ histories. Alongside his partner Billy Brown, he worked as Executive Story Editor/Writer on FOX’s hit The X-Files, served as Supervising Producer on Animorphs and Spooksville, and created, wrote, and executive produced the award-winning John Carpenter Presents: Body Bags for Showtime.
A graduate of UCLA Film School, Mr. Angel currently resides in Santa Clarita, California, with his wife and cherishes his fulfilling life with three children and five grandchildren.
