Gary R. Benz - President and Chief Executive Officer
A pioneering entrepreneur in documentary and unscripted television programming, Gary R. Benz was among the first American producers to recognize the global potential of this growing genre. In 1986, he founded GRB Entertainment, establishing it as a premier television production company and international distributor, now reaching over 160 territories worldwide. Mr. Benz has created and produced more than 3,000 hours of content across broadcast, cable, and syndication, including live events, specials, and numerous acclaimed and award-winning series.
As Executive Producer, he has led the success of programs such as A&E's Intervention, which aired 230 episodes and won the 2009 Emmy® Award for Outstanding Reality Program. His work has also earned multiple PRISM, CINE, Telly, and BANFF Film awards.
His credits include Showdown of the Unbeatables (National Geographic), Next Action Star (10 unscripted hours and a two-hour movie with Silver Pictures Television for NBC), Princes of Malibu (Fox), Aftermath with William Shatner (Bio), Alter-Eco with Adrian Grenier (Planet Green), Cannonball Run (USA), True Caribbean Pirates (History), and the long-running Untold Stories of The ER (TLC).
Since founding GRB Entertainment in Los Angeles, Mr. Benz has developed international co-productions through strategic global partnerships. Notable projects include the 200-episode primetime series Echt Wahr (Germany's Sat 1), Now See This! (France's TF1 and Discovery Channel), Stuntmasters (Canal +, Alliance Atlantis, and U.S. syndication), and AXN: Action TV (Columbia Tri-Star, Fox Family Channel, and Sony's AXN networks worldwide).
GRB's strong reputation in the financial sector is reflected by its investors, including Allen & Co., the esteemed New York-based investment bank with a rich history in entertainment, which is GRB's second-largest shareholder and has invested for over 15 years.
Mr. Benz is a member of the Directors Guild of America, Writers Guild of America, Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, The Caucus for Television Producers, Writers & Directors Foundation, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Entertainment Industries Council, Inc.
