Biographie
Bram Schouw, born in The Hague in 1979, graduated with honors from the Utrecht School of the Arts. His graduation film, MARRIAGE, was selected as the official opening film for Curta Cinema Rio de Janeiro in 2005. His second short film, IMPASSE, premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival in 2008 as part of the feature film Stories On Human Rights, a project featuring filmmakers like Hany Abu-Assad, Marina Abramovic, and Jasmila Zbanic. The film was showcased at prestigious festivals in New York, Berlin, and Sarajevo. IMPASSE earned a Special Mention at the International Amsterdam Film Festival and won the NFTVM Vers Award for emerging Dutch filmmakers.
Following the direction of the TV film NINA SATANA, penned by Urszula Antoniak, and episodes of acclaimed series such as OVERSPEL and VAN GOD LOS, Bram Schouw received a Golden Calf (Dutch Academy Award) at the Netherlands Film Festival for his short film SEVILLA. The film premiered at Clermont-Ferrand, was selected for over 100 international film festivals, won several awards, and was featured in Vimeo's 10 Best Of The Year 2014.
His debut feature film, Broers (Brothers), received critical acclaim and premiered at Premiers Plan in Angers, France in January 2018. This film, exploring the complex yet unconditional relationship between two young brothers, won Best New Director at the Brooklyn International Film Festival in New York, the Silver Screen Award at the Hollywood Film Festival, and Best Film at the International Film Festival Tonneins in France.
Childhood Dreams, an original series co-created by Marnie Blok and Bram Schouw, premiered at Canneseries 2023. The 9×50-minute family saga, praised widely, begins in the turbulent 1960s and traces the poignant journey of a family through love, loss, and life across generations. Childhood Dreams was nominated for a Dutch Academy Award, Prix Europe, and Prix Italia in 2023.
Bram resides in Marseille with actress/director Paloma Aquilera Valdebenito and their son, Roman Gabriel.
