Biographie
Joanne Wilson spent her early years in several communities across Ontario, Canada. Her acting career began after her family relocated west and north to Edmonton, where she landed her first professional theatre role as a Victorian-era teenage prostitute. She continued to perform in various regional Canadian theatres, taking on roles from Shakespearean plays to the iconic Amanda Wingfield in Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie." In her early career, Joanne balanced her stage work with broadcasting, often rushing from the theatre to a radio station for overnight DJ shifts.
Today, Joanne primarily works in film and television, appearing in supporting and lead roles for Hallmark, Lifetime, GAC Family, NBC Universal/E!, Disney, feature films, TV series such as Family Law, The L Word, Arrow, Motive, and various streaming platforms. She also enjoys acting in independent films and is a skilled voice actor in animation (Gigantosaurus, Barbie, Polly Pocket), documentaries, and numerous commercials.
Her broadcasting experience is extensive. In the 1980s, she was among Canada’s first female rock radio DJs, breaking new ground in the industry. This led her back to Ontario and Toronto’s leading rock station, Q107. Over time, she became a seasoned interviewer, writer, and producer of radio programs syndicated across Canada, the U.S., and parts of Europe, working alongside her business partner and late husband, Greg Mason. Her curiosity fueled interviews with hundreds of experts in psychology, health, education, behavior, social justice, and artists like Sting, David Bowie, AC/DC, Bruce Cockburn, Bryan Adams, and many others. She has also worked as a television host and reporter.
Joanne is a Certified Mindfulness Instructor, a practice she incorporates with her acting students. Committed to giving back, she volunteers with environmental organizations and teaches mindfulness to women affected by intimate partner violence and those recovering from addiction. Joanne is a proud mother of three; of her two surviving children, one is a physician and the other is a theatre actor with the internationally acclaimed Stratford Festival.
