Biographie
Stephen Vagg is an Australian-American TV executive producer and screenwriter based in both Australia and the United States.
He served as Co-Executive Producer on Rock Island Mysteries, an adventure series for Nickelodeon Australia, contributing to 40 episodes. He was Supervising Producer on the internationally broadcast serial drama Neighbours for FremantleMedia, overseeing the writing department and plotting over 1,000 thirty-minute episodes for more than three years. Additionally, he worked as Co-Producer, writer, and Story Editor for several years on the globally screened serial drama Home and Away.
Recently, Stephen was commissioned to write an episode for the drama-mystery series Darby and Joan (available on Apple TV). His YA comedy film Nerd Prom, with Sofia Wylie attached, is in development by his management team. His family adventure pilot script The Girl from Snowy River was optioned by Archipelago Productions.
He wrote and co-produced the feature films Jucy and All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane, the latter earning a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Australian Film Institute Awards (Australia's equivalent of the Oscars). Stephen won an Australian Writers’ Guild Award for his Neighbours script, episode 6857, marking the first time the show had won in that category in a decade.
Stephen authored Rod Taylor: An Aussie in LA, a biography of Australian actor Rod Taylor (The Time Machine, The Birds), which was adapted into the feature documentary Rod Taylor: Pulling No Punches, in which he appeared as an interviewee. He has also worked as a freelance script editor, researcher, and story consultant, and penned several plays performed internationally, including the award-winning Friday Night Drinks.
An internationally recognized film historian specializing in British, Hollywood, and Australian cinema, Stephen has published numerous peer-reviewed articles on film history and recorded several audio commentaries. Formerly a lawyer specializing in Property and Corporate Law, he volunteered providing Media Law advice, spent a year at the Prosecutor’s office, and has taught law at the university level.
