Biographie
Tassos Boulmetis studied Physics at the University of Athens and Film Production and Direction at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), supported by a scholarship from the A. Onassis Foundation. At UCLA, he served as a teaching assistant for courses on directing actors for film and television. In Greece, he began his career directing and producing TV shows for state television networks. In 1990, he wrote, directed, and co-produced the film "The Dream Factory," which was initially shot on analogue video and later transferred to 35mm film. The film received eight awards in Greece and the Golden Award for Fantasy Movies at the Houston Film Festival. For several years, he directed TV commercials for Greek and European agencies. His second feature film, "A Touch of Spice," which he wrote, directed, and co-produced, is a personal project inspired largely by true events from his own life. The film became the most successful in Greece, with over 1.6 million admissions, and was distributed in 45 countries worldwide. "A Touch of Spice" was showcased at numerous international festivals and earned eight awards of excellence in Greece. It was Greece's official submission for the 2005 Academy Awards. Recently, he has taught Advanced Film Directing courses at private institutions in Greece. He was the first unanimously elected president of the Hellenic Film Academy. His third feature film, "MYTHOPATHY," is a coming-of-age sarcastic comedy set in 1970s Greece, exploring the political system and its role in the country's current crisis. In 2018, he wrote, directed, and co-produced "1968," a docu-fiction film telling the story of A.E.K., an underdog basketball team founded by refugees in 1924 that won the European Champions Cup nearly 50 years later. He is a member of the European Film Academy.
