Biographie
Charles Porter was born at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, England, and holds dual citizenship in both England and the U.S. He played five years of Division 1 football at Duke University but chose not to pursue the NFL after undergoing extensive back surgery following his final season. At Duke, Charles majored in Cultural Anthropology, drawn by his passion for people and culture. He is also conversational in French.
This England-born actor gained his first major film role as the lead in the Lionsgate horror movie Holla. He soon followed with a lead role and producer credit on the film Nailed, released by Image Entertainment. Nailed is a psychological thriller that takes the audience on a gripping journey from the past to the present through Charles' character.
Charles has also appeared as a guest star on several top network television shows.
In 2010, Charles battled stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. A determined fighter, he achieved remission the following year and has since returned to pursuing his passions.
After starring in the 2011 title role of the Wendell Scott biopic A Race Story, Charles was asked by director Robert Madero to star in his next feature, Battered, which streams on Amazon, while working on the series Movie Star Idols.
In 2013, Charles published his first book of poetry, Get to Know: Unlocking the Essence in You. His second poetry collection, Choose Your Path, was released in 2015, with both available on Amazon.
In summer 2017, Charles starred in JC, which premiered at Cannes, earning him high praise for his portrayal of Brutus.
Since his initial diagnosis in 2010 and stem cell transplant in 2011, Charles has experienced three relapses. In January 2022, he successfully underwent a CarT Cell transplant as part of a clinical trial. Undeterred, he immediately produced the film A Miracle Before Christmas, starring Keith David, Letoya Luckett, Romeo Miller, and Demetrius Shipp.
In 2023, Charles began production on Christmas Angel. During filming, cancer returned once again, but he completed a successful bone marrow transplant.
In 2025, Charles and his team completed Finding Faith, which is set to open in theaters on June 16.
