Biographie
Raul Mendez is widely regarded in Mexico as one of the finest actors of his generation. With classical training, he is often described as a chameleon, consistently working across film, television, and theater.
In October 2014, he appeared in two Netflix Original Series portraying vastly different roles: the unstable antagonist Joaquin in "Sense8," directed by James McTeigue and produced by Lana and Andy Wachowski, and President César Gaviria in "Narcos," produced by José Padilha and Chris Brancato, featuring multiple directors including fellow Mexican Oscar winner Guillermo Navarro.
He recently completed filming "Texas Rising," playing Juan Seguin, directed by Roland Joffé and produced by the same team behind "Hatfields and McCoys." The series was scheduled to air on the History Channel in May 2015.
Raul has appeared in numerous Mexican television series, including "El Señor de los Cielos" Parts 1 and 2, which aired in the U.S. on NBC/Telemundo.
Raised in Torréon, Raul pursued his passion in Mexico City, earning a degree in Dramatic Arts. He later joined the Los Endebles Theatre Company, honing his skills through various theatrical productions. He also performed in commercial theatre, with his last play, "No sé si Cortarme las Venas...," achieving such success that writer-director Manolo Caro adapted it into a hit film featuring the original cast.
With over 30 films to his credit, Raul earned several nominations for his role in "Matando Cabos." He also participated in American productions filmed in Mexico, including "For Greater Glory" alongside Andy Garcia, and "The Kid" with Martin Sheen. At 27, he landed the role of Ferroq in "The Legend of Zorro" after director Martin Campbell saw his self-taped audition. His first English-speaking television role was in "Time of The Butterflies."
His film "The Incident," directed by Isaac Ezban, screened in 2014 at festivals such as the Austin Fantastic Festival and Vancouver International Film Festival. It had its Mexican premiere at the Los Cabos International Film Festival, competing as a First Feature. Raul’s next film, "Visitantes," premiered in Mexico City in December 2014.
Known for his discipline and dedication, Raul maintains a consistent training regimen to refine his craft.
