Biographie
Anthony Reynolds is an American actor, writer, and producer, recognized for his portrayals of authoritative figures such as law enforcement officers, federal agents, and military officials. Inspired by the character actors from films of his youth, Anthony aimed to become a supporting actor who complements lead roles. After graduating from Cary High School in 1986, he attended North Carolina State University and East Carolina University, making yearly visits to New York to explore theater and museums. Despite some challenges during his college years, he earned a BFA in Communication Arts from ECU in 1992.
In 1993, Anthony traveled with a friend to Los Angeles, staying on the floor of his high school friend Keith Coulouris' apartment in Studio City. Keith helped him secure a small role in the 1994 USA Network movie of the week, Dead Man's Revenge, which starred Bruce Dern, Michael Ironside, and Vondie Curtis-Hall. Realizing the high cost of living in LA, Anthony returned to the East Coast to pursue formal acting training, spending nearly two years in Atlanta studying and auditioning. Encouraged by his agent Ted Borden, he moved to Manhattan in 1995 to study at The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.
Upon arriving in New York, Anthony briefly lived in an NYU dorm with a fellow student after his initial housing plans fell through—the apartment he was to move into had been broken into and robbed the night before. He subsequently moved between apartments on the Upper East and West Sides of the city. Alongside his studies at LSTI, he took private lessons with acting coaches Michael Margotta and Geoffrey Horne and performed regularly in off-Broadway black box theaters.
After leaving his job at the Hard Rock Cafe on 57th Street, Anthony was asked to stand in for Sam Rockwell for six weeks on Woody Allen's film Celebrity. This opportunity led to a stand-in role on Keeping The Faith. Following the wrap of that film in summer 1999, Anthony relocated to Los Angeles. There, he studied with Milton Katselas at The Beverly Hills Playhouse and with Lesly Kahn in the Hollywood Hills. He found the best training came from working on set alongside other actors, including a nine-year collaboration as a stand-in for Academy Award-nominated Edward Norton on several films and four films with Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Billy Bob Thornton.
Anthony regards his stand-in work as invaluable training, appreciating the chance to observe A-list actors up close while being paid. He ceased stand-in work in 2007 to focus fully on his acting career and has since maintained a busy schedule in film and television, represented bi-coastally.
