Biographie
Lisa Rose Snow received the 2023 Canadian Screen Award for Best Direction in a TV Movie for Lifetime's pioneering first lesbian holiday film, Under the Christmas Tree. The film was also nominated for a 2022 GLAAD Award. Her work is recognized for its distinctive visual style, and she is known as an actor’s director who fosters collaboration and creativity on set. Her background as a writer and performer deeply informs her storytelling, making her a nuanced director who combines heart-punch comedy with experience across multiple genres, including VFX.
Raised on Canada’s East Coast, Lisa Rose began her career in front of the camera. A graduate of Dalhousie University’s Acting Program, she has appeared in numerous film and television projects, including the TIFF Discovery Award-winning All the Wrong Reasons, and recurring roles on Sex and Violence, Haven, Saving Hope, and This Hour Has 22 Minutes. In 2013, she joined AFCOOP’s FILM5 program, where she wrote and directed her debut short, Two Penny Road Kill. The film won Best Canadian Short at the Silver Wave Film Festival, Best Juried Short at the Parrsboro Film Festival, Bronze for Best Film in The Coast Weekly, and was featured on CBC’s Short Film Face Off. Lisa Rose then earned the NSI Drama Prize for her short film When Fish Fly, which screened internationally, including at TIFF Kids, and won Audience Choice at the San José Short Film Festival. She later relocated to Toronto to join the Canadian Film Centre’s Cineplex Screenwriting Program.
Shifting her focus toward writing and directing, Lisa Rose has contributed to writers’ rooms for major networks such as Netflix, ABC, CBC, and HBO Max. Her television directing credits include work for BBC Kids, PBS, Amazon Prime, Makeful, and the Emmy-winning series Odd Squad and Dino Dana. In 2017, Women In View named her one of Canada’s top three emerging female directors. She won the Telefilm New Voices Award in 2018 and received a WIFT Award for Women Making Waves. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she directed Lockdown from her living room for YouTube Studios, attracting over one million views. In February 2021, season two of Odd Tube, which she directed, won the Kidscreen Award for Best Web Series - Branded, competing against Lucas Films and Mattel.
Most recently, Lisa Rose directed a new half-hour fantasy comedy for Netflix and has an original feature film and a limited series book adaptation in development. She continues to live and create in Toronto and enjoys filming around the world.
