William Kaufman is an American filmmaker recognized for crafting intense genre films that blend visceral action with authentic human emotion.
His films delve into themes such as loyalty, survival, brotherhood, violence, and moral consequences, telling stories grounded as much in character development as in spectacle. Combining raw realism with a keen sense of tension, atmosphere, and character depth, Kaufman has established a unique voice in contemporary genre cinema.
Kaufman gained initial acclaim with the cult action movie Sinners and Saints (2010), kickstarting a prolific directing career that includes collaborations with Sony Pictures, 20th Century Studios, and Paramount Pictures. His films are known not only for their authenticity, tactical accuracy, and dynamic action sequences but also for focusing on flawed characters facing pressure, corruption, family struggles, and survival challenges.
He recently directed the sci-fi action epic Osiris (2025), featuring Linda Hamilton and Max Martini, followed by the action thriller Man of War (2026), starring LaMonica Garrett alongside Jason Patric and Andrew Howard.
Raised in a nomadic family due to his father's international career, Kaufman spent his early years in London, Bangkok, and Japan before settling in Texas and eventually making New Orleans his home.
