Biographie
Roy Campanella II is an acclaimed director, writer, and producer whose creative portfolio spans mainstream television and independent feature films. His feature film, The Company We Keep, an ensemble romantic comedy set in the music industry, won the Best Feature Film award at the Urban MediaMakers Film Festival in 2010. It was also selected as one of the Big Eight films at the San Diego Black Film Festival in 2011 and earned an 89% audience approval rating from independent testing at the Pan African Film Festival that same year.
As President of Production at Kensington Media, Campanella focuses on translating Kensington Publishing’s rich literary assets into entertainment media. His original screenplay for The Company We Keep was adapted into a novel by bestselling author Mary Monroe and published by Kensington.
Campanella’s credits include the acclaimed PBS television movie Brother Future, which garnered awards from the Directors Guild of America, Columbus International Film Festival, and the National Black Programming Consortium. He has been honored twice by the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame, most recently for his cable feature Masquerade, a widely popular urban romantic comedy.
In a pioneering agreement, Campanella was selected to produce ten cable features for Black Entertainment Television (BET) and the Home Entertainment market. He produced all ten films and directed three: Masquerade, Rendezvous, and Playing With Fire.
His extensive directing work includes over one hundred hours of prime time television series such as Boston Public, Beverly Hills 90210, Oprah Winfrey's The Women of Brewster Place, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Dallas, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest, Baywatch, Frank’s Place, and I’ll Fly Away (for which he received a DGA nomination). He has also directed numerous television movies, including Body of Evidence and Quiet Victory, as well as commercials for Coca-Cola, Toyota, Crest, McDonald’s, Tide, and the Project for a Drug-Free America.
Before these roles, Campanella served as a programming executive at CBS Movies and Mini-Series, acting as the network liaison for a portfolio of twenty movies of the week, overseeing each project from development through post-production.
Son of the Hall of Fame Brooklyn Dodger Roy Campanella, he graduated with honors from Harvard University and earned an MBA from Columbia University, where he received the Louis G. Cowan Award for excellence in Media Management.
