Biographie
Steven studied Theatre Studies at Winchester University, the same course he initially tried to join after leaving school. However, working full-time as a bouncer prevented him from committing fully at that time. He then spent about ten years drifting through various jobs, unable to find satisfaction as he wasn’t pursuing his true passion for cinema. After earning his degree, he wrote and produced a play called Doorways, inspired by his 20 years of experience as a bouncer and soldier. He was fortunate to receive two scholarships: one for writing with The National Theatre and another for acting with the New York Film Academy. To fund two years of living in New York, he bought a taxi and entered a cage fighting tournament, but a broken leg abruptly ended those plans. Despite this setback, it motivated him to independently transform Doorways into a feature film. With no filmmaking experience, no team, and no budget, he raised funds locally, sold his taxi, adapted the screenplay, directed the film himself, and starred in it, driven solely by his love of cinema. This self-taught journey served as his apprenticeship. He then created his second feature, My Saviour, based on his original screenplay, again writing, acting, co-producing, and directing. During his third independent film, Relentless, he overcame numerous challenges, and the film went on to win several awards before and after release.
Following Relentless, Steven embarked on his most ambitious project: his fourth film, the psychological crime thriller Skull Hunter. Despite setbacks with producers, his determination prevailed, and the movie was completed and is currently with distributors. While working security at the Raindance Film Festival in Cannes, he secured funding for Skull Hunter, marking the first time he didn’t have to finance a film by selling possessions or cage fighting. Around this time, he submitted a half-hour comedy/drama episode to the BBC Writer’s Room, which led to a six-part series. He produced the pilot himself, titled Happy Hours, an ensemble show set in a rundown pub, partly inspired by Doorways.
As of summer 2026, Steven is in preproduction on his fifth film.
