Biographie
Alex Dauphin (she/her) is a Haitian-American writer-director, actor, and storyteller whose award-winning work honors black, queer, transnational, and femme identities, amplifying the voices and histories of those at these intersections.
Her pilot/short film By The Lake premiered at the Oscar-qualifying Atlanta Film Festival. It won Best Screenplay at the Oscar-qualifying Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival, where it was also screened, and received a nomination for Best Long Form Episodic Pilot at the SoHo International Film Festival. The film was an Official Selection at Out on Film, Catalina Film Festival, Richmond International Film Festival, Micheaux Film Festival, Atlanta Women’s Film Festival, among others.
Dauphin’s directorial debut, Jeudi, earned the Prix du Jury at the Atlanta French Film Festival, Best LGBT Short Film at the Berlin Short Film Festival, an Honorable Mention at IndieX, and Best Actress at the Alpine Frame Film Festival. It garnered four additional nominations and was officially selected for 15 film festivals, including Out on Film, Tokyo International Film Festival, Micheaux Film Festival, and Georgia Shorts.
Her upcoming short screenplay Last Man Standing is a Finalist at both the Atlanta Film Festival and Chicago Script Awards and a quarter-finalist at Raindance. Another screenplay, Monsters, reached semifinalist status at the Atlanta Film Festival and Chicago Script Awards and advanced to the second round at the Austin Film Festival Screenwriting Competition.
In theatre, Dauphin’s directing credits include associate director for Cullud Wattah (Victory Gardens, dir. Lili-Anne Brown), assistant director for Last Night and The Night Before (Steppenwolf Theatre Company, dir. Valerie Curtis-Newton), Wife of A Salesman (Writers Theatre, dir. Jo Bonney), and Routes (Remy Bumppo, dir. Mikael Burke).
Her acting roles span television series such as Die Hart (ROKU), Ordinary Joe (NBC), Dynasty (The CW), MacGyver (FOX), Long Slow Exhale (BET), and Chicago Med (NBC), as well as stage productions including Seize the King (Alliance Theatre), A Christmas Carol, and The Wolves (TheatreSquared).
