Biographie
Rob Tinkler is an actor, screenwriter, director, and voice actor based in Toronto and Los Angeles. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he moved to the Toronto area during grade school. In his late teens, he became active in community theatre, performing in plays and musicals, and was later accepted into the Theatre program at Ryerson University, where he earned his BFA. At Ryerson, he met future sketch comedy collaborators Mike Beaver, Jason Jones, and Stacey Depass.
Rob’s first role after graduation was on the YTV sketch comedy series "It's Alive," where he developed an interest in writing. After the show ended and facing a slowdown in acting opportunities, Rob teamed up with roommates Mike Beaver and Shaun Majumder to form the comedy troupe "Beaver, Tinkler, Majumder." The group soon expanded to include Jason Jones, Stacey Depass, and Jenn Baxter, who had also been on "It's Alive," and was renamed "The Bobroom." During this time, Rob discovered a passion for voice-over work, landing roles in animated series such as "Sam & Max Freelance Police," "X-Men," and "Sailor Moon."
Rob and The Bobroom performed numerous live sketch shows across Toronto, Chicago, and New York City. They caught the attention of Milan Curry-Sharples, leading to a spot on the comedy showcase series "Comedy Now." This exposure helped develop the sketch comedy series "The Bobroom" for the Comedy Network. Although the show had a limited run, it provided Rob valuable experience in character creation and screenwriting. Around this period, he also appeared in feature films including "The Tuxedo" and the cult favorite "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle."
After working on pilot seasons in Los Angeles, Rob secured the necessary accreditation to relocate to the U.S. full-time. There, he wrote for several animated series such as "Wayside," "Pandalian," and "Almost Naked Animals." He also provided voices for video games like "Superman Returns" and "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2," as well as animated pilots and series including "Celebrity Deathmatch" and Fox’s prime-time show "American Dad." Additionally, he appeared in numerous commercials and had a recurring role as Rachael Harris’ foil on ABC’s "Notes From The Underbelly."
Rob voices multiple characters on PBS’s "The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That," leads as the danger dog Howie on Cartoon Network’s "Almost Naked Animals," and voices Gingka in "Beyblade Metal Fusion." He splits his time between Los Angeles and Toronto, continuing to develop series and films. Beyond acting, writing, and directing, Rob also serves as a Creative Consultant on "Almost Naked Animals.
