Biographie
Ralph Tresvant was born on May 16, 1968, in Roxbury, Massachusetts, to Patricia and Ralph Sr. He has an older sister, LaTonya, and a younger brother, Andre. In 1993, Ralph married his childhood sweetheart, Shelly, and they have two daughters, Na'Quelle and Mariah.
While in junior high, Ralph and friends Ronnie DeVoe, Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, and Michael Bivins formed the music group New Edition. Maurice Starr discovered them at a talent show and signed them to Streetwise Records in 1983. Their debut album featured hits like "Candy Girl," "Popcorn Love," and "Is This The End."
In 1984, they left Streetwise for MCA Records. Their second album, "New Edition," included hits such as "Cool It Now," "Mr. Telephone Man," and "Lost In Love." In 1985, they released "All For Love," which featured "Count Me Out" and "A Little Bit Of Love [Is All It Takes]."
In 1987, after Bobby Brown left the group, Johnny Gill joined, bringing a more Adult Contemporary style to their music. Their album "Heart Break" topped the charts with songs like "If It Isn't Love," "Can You Stand The Rain," and "Boyz II Men."
In 1990, the members pursued solo careers: Bobby Brown, Johnny Gill, Bell Biv DeVoe, and Ralph Tresvant. Ralph's debut solo album, "Ralph Tresvant," went platinum and included hits like "Sensitivity," which held the #1 spot on the R&B charts for 20 weeks and reached #4 on the Pop charts, as well as "Do What I Gotta Do" and "Stone Cold Gentleman," featuring Bobby Brown. Ralph also appeared in the movie "House Party 2," contributing the song "Yo, Baby, Yo!" to its soundtrack. Additionally, his song "Money Can't Buy You Love" was featured on the "Mo' Money" soundtrack, and he was part of "Somebody Bigger Than You And I" on "The Preacher's Wife" soundtrack.
In 1993, Ralph released his second album, "It's Goin' Down," which did not achieve the same success as his debut.
In 1996, New Edition reunited with all six members—Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike, Ralph, and Johnny—and released an album featuring hits like "Hit Me Off" and "I'm Still In Love With You." They embarked on the New Edition Reunion Tour, which had two legs: one from December to February, and another from June to July, the latter without Bobby Brown and Michael Bivins.
Recently, Bobby Brown left the group, stating he dislikes them and will never collaborate with them again. New Edition is now focusing on solo projects, including Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill, Ronnie DeVoe, Ricky Bell, and Bell Biv DeVoe. Meanwhile, Michael Bivins is working on his company, Biv 10.
