Biographie
Justin Chu Cary, born and raised in Oakland, California, is a Lifetime Member of The Actors Studio.
He was a series regular on Netflix's Black Summer (2019-2021) and recently appeared alongside Dustin Hoffman and Candice Bergen in Mayim Bialik's directorial debut, As They Made Us (2022).
From a young age, Cary showed a passion for visual arts, winning statewide competitions in 4th and 6th grade. He attended Berkeley High School, where he participated in track and served as captain of the wrestling team. Recruited by the University of California, Davis for Track & Field, he competed in the 800M and 4x400M relays. He earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology with minors in Theater and Visual Arts.
After graduating, Cary returned to the Bay Area and became active in local theater. In 2009, he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film and television.
In LA, Cary supported himself through visual art, graphic, and web design jobs. He also landed commercial and modeling campaigns for brands such as Nike, Target, Footlocker, and Ford. He maintained his theater involvement, performing in productions like The Meeting, The Death of The Last Black Man In The Whole Entire World, and In The Red and Brown Water, the last earning him and the cast the LADCC Award for Best Ensemble. He studied and performed with Upright Citizens Brigade and The Actors Gang, continuing to hone his skills at The Actors Studio.
Cary's television debut was a six-episode recurring role on NBC's Days of Our Lives. He has since appeared as a co-star and guest on shows including Jane the Virgin, Supergirl, S.W.A.T., and NCIS. His first feature film role was in Blindspotting, written by and starring longtime friends and Berkeley High alumni Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs. He continues to collaborate with them in a recurring role on the Blindspotting series on STARZ.
