Biographie
Raised on a farm in a small Kansas town, Jean experienced a degree of isolation that sparked her imagination and led her into a world of make-believe. It’s no surprise that her most fulfilling moments in high school and at Kansas State University were the plays and productions she participated in. Pursuing a professional acting career was a natural step for her. Jean remains deeply thankful to Joel Climenhaga, the Director of Theatre at KSU, who encouraged her to pursue acting professionally and inspired her to chase dreams beyond what she thought possible.
For over 30 years, Jean has been a SAG actor with more than 100 credits, including appearances on popular shows like THE KOMINSKY METHOD, MOM, HAWAII 5-0, and many others. Alongside her acting career, she raised her son as a single mother and managed her own business producing workshop events for the entertainment industry. She also runs DON’T SHOOT YOURSELF, a self-tape audition company where she coaches and films actors.
In September 2019, Jean received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the NEW VISION INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL. She gratefully dedicated the honor to all the hardworking actors who persist every day, honing their craft and careers often with little recognition—these are the true champions in her eyes.
Jean is an active volunteer with the World Peace Organization, SGI-USA, dedicating much of her time and energy to supporting others in their practice, especially younger individuals. She firmly believes in the absolute happiness and equality of all people.
She is incredibly proud of her son, Martin Starr, who has achieved great success as a person, artist, and actor. Known for his kindness, generosity, and sharp sense of humor, he continues to inspire her.
Jean maintains excellent physical health through daily workouts including yoga, cycling, and weight training. She feels fortunate to lead such an active, fulfilling life and to enjoy a long, enduring career as an actress.
