Biographie
Nathan Phan, the eldest of four children born to Vietnamese immigrants Hien and Quyen Phan, moved with his family to Glasgow, Scotland at the age of one. There, he found that doing voices and being humorous helped him avoid being bullied. He also began practicing sleight-of-hand magic, adding to his growing repertoire of tricks. Upon returning to Southern California, he started writing short stories and song parodies to perform for friends and was soon accepted into the Orange County School of the Arts' Creative Writing conservatory.
In his junior year at O.C.S.A., one of his Creative Writing teachers, John Blaylock—son of renowned fantasy author James P. Blaylock—invited him to audition for a musical he was directing at a local children's theater. That production became the first of eight full-length stage shows he would perform in over the next several years, alongside numerous student films. He also landed his first studio feature film role in Superbad, thanks to his impressive Christopher Walken impression.
Nathan embodies versatility. He has performed in Shakespeare, Chekhov, commedia dell’arte, farce, improv, and circus shows. He can sing opera, jazz, musical theatre, and rock’n’roll, boasting a vocal range spanning four octaves. Additionally, he plays piano and ukulele, writes screenplays, short stories, and poetry, and is an accomplished magician. Skilled in close-up sleight-of-hand, mentalism, and stage illusions, he has appeared on numerous magic TV shows including Masters of Illusion, Wizard Wars, and Penn & Teller: Fool Us, and regularly performs at The Magic Castle in Hollywood.
