Biographie
As a young teenager in the UK, Paul was heavily influenced by Marvel Comics and dreamed of drawing Spider-Man. Lacking media connections (though his father did offer him a job at British Gas), he taught himself and self-published a 'graphic novel' at university. He sent it to David Lloyd, president of the Society of Strip Illustrators, who responded that Paul's artwork was poor but his writing showed promise.
Taking this advice, Paul shifted to writing comic scripts, selling sci-fi and fantasy stories to publisher D.C. Thomson & Co in Dundee. At 21, he began writing his first TV play, 'Watching,' which was produced and aired by the BBC.
After months spent on a second play that failed to sell due to poor quality, he broadened his work to short-form comedy writing for BBC Radio and Television, starting with 'Carrott Confidential' and continuing with various other programs. Missing storytelling, he co-wrote, helped crowd-fund, and co-produced his first feature film, 'Staggered' (https://youtu.be/YqY6dpn-HFA), which debuted at number 3 in the UK Box Office.
This success led him into narrative comedy for sitcoms and children’s shows, including 'Red Dwarf,' 'My Hero,' and 'My Parents Are Aliens,' as well as projects for pop group S-Club 7, including their sole feature film, 'Seeing Double.'
Over time, Paul has explored nearly every form of screenwriting—movies, sitcoms, dramas, soaps, game shows, reality shows, awards shows, and talk shows. He has also written for the stage, contributing jokes for Ian McKellen’s Widow Twankey in 'Aladdin' at the Old Vic in 2006 and co-authoring the book for a musical adaptation of the Peter Sellers film 'The Smallest Show on Earth,' which toured the UK in late 2015.
