Sean Mauricette, known as Subliminal
For over a decade, Sean Mauricette, aka Subliminal, has been mastering his craft and captivating audiences as a beatboxer, DJ, lyricist, and producer with his signature blend of hip hop and soul. His unique sound, coined "Soul Hop," combines the smooth, impactful beats reminiscent of J Dilla with influences from Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, and Dwele. Subliminal has shared the stage with notable artists such as De La Soul, Mos Def, and Eric Roberson.
Following successful tours across the US and UK, Subliminal has earned worldwide acclaim for his album TRAINATHOUGHT and the single "What We're Gonna' Be." He recently collaborated with three-time Grammy-nominated producer Herb "Big Herb" Middleton on his latest project, the U-Turn Project.
Beyond music, Subliminal has established himself as an actor with credits including Disney’s Jump In starring Corbin Bleu, the Sonny Liston biopic Phantom Punch featuring Ving Rhames, and a significant role in an episode of CTV’s police drama The Bridge. He also contributed his voice and acting skills to Shaun White’s anticipated video game, Skateboarding.
An engaged community member, Subliminal was selected to host the 2010 Harry Jerome Awards, Canada’s premier ceremony celebrating African Canadian achievements.
A graduate of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Architecture, Subliminal is the inaugural recipient of the Arts and Culture Award from the university’s Black Students Association. He serves as the lead architectural designer for a unique support center for young fathers in Toronto, collaborating with the YMCA and Toronto Community Housing. As host and keynote speaker for L.I.F.T. (Laying Important Foundations Together), he advocates for youth empowerment against negative societal stereotypes. Subliminal has received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Councilors Association of Ontario for his work with students and is currently nominated for the Harry Jerome Community Service Award. Through performance, lectures, and mentorship, Subliminal continues to strengthen his role as a dedicated community leader.
