Biographie
Sergio Goldenberg is a Brazilian screenwriter and director. He studied cinema at Universidade Federal Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro and has worked as a scriptwriter for TV Globo since 1995.
As an independent producer and director, he created Volta Redonda - Strike Memorial, The Girls From Rio, No Rubber, No Way!, Occupation: Housemaid, Rio Funk, and Chocolate Makers.
Volta Redonda was screened at INPUT 90 in Canada and won the Best Documentary award at The World Television Festival in Japan.
The Girls From Rio was screened at INPUT 91 in Ireland and received the Best TV Programme award at the Jornada de Cinema da Bahia in 1992. It was broadcast on TV Cultura Brazil, PBS USA, SVT 2 Sweden, Learning Channel, and NRK Norway.
No Rubber, No Way!, funded by the Pan American Health Organization, was showcased at INPUT 93 in England and at the Video Visions segment of the New York Film Festival. It won the 'Sol de Prata' prize at the Rio Cine Festival and a Special Award at VideoFest 93 in Germany. It aired on RTBF Belgium, Vision Canada, Canal+ France, Denmark TV, SVT 1 Sweden, and TSR Switzerland.
Occupation: Housemaid, funded by ZDF Germany, was broadcast on ARTE, Radio Quebec Canada, TV Europe 5, and TV Cultura Brazil. It won Best Documentary at the Nord-Sud Festival 1994 in Geneva and was selected for The Marguerite Meed Festival.
Rio Funk, co-produced with Canal+, was aired in France, Channel 4 England, TV Bandeirantes, and TV Cultura Brazil. It won Best Documentary at the Rio Cine Festival in 1995 and was presented at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival the same year.
Chocolate Makers, co-produced with ARTE and TVE, was broadcast in Europe, in France and Germany in 1997, and on TV Cultura Brazil.
For commercial TV in Brazil, he produced 20 episodes of the series Documento Especial and worked as a scriptwriter for TV Globo's monthly show Brasil Legal and weekly show Muvuca. He also directed Teen Video Stories in Mozambique, a series created with adolescents from six countries, produced by the Canadian CIFEJ.
He made his feature-length directorial debut with Bendito Fruto, starring Otávio Augusto, Zezeh Barbosa, Vera Holtz, Lúcia Alves, Evandro Machado, Camila Pitanga, and Eduardo Moscovis.
His recent work as a screenwriter for TV Globo includes the miniseries O Canto da Sereia (2013), Amores Roubados (2014), and the remake of the soap opera O Rebu (2014), all in collaboration with George Moura. Together, they also created the TV Globo series Onde Nascem os Fortes (2018) and the Globoplay series Onde Está Meu Coração (2020).
