Jody Gerson is the Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Publishing Group, the global publishing division of Universal Music. With over thirty years of experience, she is a highly respected and accomplished music executive and a leading creative authority. Gerson is the first woman to serve as chairman of a global music company and the first female CEO of a major music publisher.
Since joining UMPG in 2015, Gerson has transformed the company into a billion-dollar enterprise and established it as the top global home for songwriters. Under her leadership, UMPG significantly enhanced its competitive and financial standing, increasing revenue by 56%. She has overseen the signing and renewal of agreements with world-class songwriters such as the Bee Gees, Elton John, Carly Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Rosalia, Alicia Keys, Coldplay, Justin Bieber, Jack White, SZA, Post Malone, Quavo, Ariana Grande, H.E.R., Harry Styles, Maren Morris, and many others.
A passionate advocate for women's empowerment, Gerson co-founded and sits on the Board of Directors for She Is The Music, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting equality and inclusion for women. She also serves on the boards of the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA), and The Archer School for Girls.
Gerson has received numerous prestigious accolades, including Billboard's 'Executive of the Year' on the Power 100 list, inclusion in Billboard's Power 100, Billboard's 2015 Executive of the Year for Women In Music, Rolling Stone's 'Future 25', Variety's Power of Women L.A., and the 2016 March of Dimes Inspiring Woman of the Year for her leadership in the entertainment industry and dedication as a mother.
Before joining Universal Music, Gerson was Co-President of Sony/ATV Music Publishing. She also held senior management roles at EMI Music Publishing, where she led the company's East Coast publishing division and revitalized and headed the West Coast division. Beyond music, Gerson has produced the films Drumline and ATL and served as executive producer for VH1's Drumline 2.
